Prescott Jail Overview

Prescott Detention Center is operated by the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office as an adult county jail location. The official YCSO detention-center page lists it with the Camp Verde Detention Center, and the research treats both as the adult jail buildings covered by the sheriff's unified current-custody roster. Prescott is especially important for the west and north side of Yavapai County because it is connected to the Prescott Criminal Justice Center and nearby court functions. Sheriff David Rhodes leads the sheriff's office that operates the adult detention system.

YCSO's Prescott Criminal Justice Center page says the new detention center replaced the old small jail in the downtown Sheriff's Office building. The county built the new complex to reduce the need to move Prescott-area inmates to Courthouse Square for court. The facility helps connect booking, housing, bond, video or in-person court appearances, and records work on the Prescott side of the county jail system.

The public roster does not publish a separate Prescott search filter. Instead, the YCSO Online Inmate Search returns rows by last name, and the location column can show labels such as PJC UNIT A. The research notes that PJC appears to refer to the Prescott jail or criminal justice complex, but YCSO does not publish a public abbreviation legend in the roster. That makes the detention information line important when a family member needs to confirm whether a person is at Prescott, Camp Verde, medical, court, or another location.

The Prescott jail is one part of a county-wide custody network. YCSO transport staff move people between adult jail facilities, courts, the Arizona Department of Corrections, and other jurisdictions. Court Services coordinates appearances with more than 30 courts and a population exceeding 500 inmates, using video monitors and in-person appearances when needed.

Prescott Capacity and Population

Prescott has clearer public capacity context than Camp Verde. YCSO describes the new Prescott detention center as a 144-bed facility. The 2025 county inmate automated tracking RFP describes Prescott Housing Unit A with five dorms and 154 beds total. The difference should be presented as sourced context rather than forced into one unsupported figure. The first number comes from the public YCSO page. The second comes from the county RFP layout description.

Population data is published mostly for the adult jail system as a whole, not for Prescott alone. The county Jail District RFP showed adult average facility population rising from 476 in 2020 to 554 in 2023. A later 2025 BAFO letter also used 554 ADP and a 500 to 600 person range for medical-service pricing. That system figure includes adults across both YCSO jail facilities and should not be read as a Prescott-only headcount.

Prescott Inmate Roster Search

Search Prescott custody through the official YCSO Online Inmate Search. The roster uses one last-name field for the adult jail system. It does not include a facility dropdown, first-name field, booking number field, date range, charge filter, or release filter. Results inspected in the research were current-custody rows with inmate number, booking date, location, and name. No public mugshot, charge list, bond amount, DOB, court date, or profile link was visible in the result table.

1. Open the YCSO Online Inmate Search and check the "Information is accurate as of" timestamp.
2. Enter the person's last name exactly as it may have been booked.
3. Review the results for the inmate number, booking date, location label, and name spelling.
4. Treat PJC location labels as a Prescott-side clue, but confirm with YCSO when the exact location matters.
5. If no row appears, use the detention information line for new bookings, transfers, spelling issues, releases, or unidentified bookings.

Once a person is sentenced to Arizona state prison, the YCSO roster is no longer the right primary search. Prescott Address and Contact

The facility contact card follows the official YCSO detention-center page. The same Prescott phone is also the main sheriff number in several county contexts, while the Camp Verde number is published as the detention information line used for inmate lookup. If a roster row shows a Prescott-side location but the family needs a visit, bond, or custody confirmation, calling before travel is the safest path.

YCSO records requests are not the same as immediate custody questions. Records requests may be filed at the Prescott records counter at 255 E. Gurley Street, First Floor, Prescott, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, or by email to the official records address listed in the research. That process is used for booking, arrest, medical, photo, audio, phone-call, or video records.

Prescott Detention Visits

Prescott uses the YCSO adult jail visitation rules. The sheriff's visitation page says Prescott inmate visits are conducted inside the new facility, and visitors should check in at the Sheriff's Office public lobby next to the flagpoles. Visits must be scheduled ahead of time, and no onsite visits occur on holidays. Remote video visits through Securus are available for a charge and can avoid travel across the county.

Prescott visitation can be affected by court movement because the facility is tied to the Criminal Justice Center. A roster row confirms custody, but it does not promise that the person is available for a visit at a specific moment.

Prescott Mail and Deposits

Adult jail mail is routed through the Yavapai County Jail mailing address at Camp Verde even when the person is housed on the Prescott side. The sender should use the inmate's booked name and the Camp Verde detention address. YCSO accepts handwritten or typed letters if they comply with jail mail rules. It rejects packages unless they are approved publications sent through approved methods.

Messages are not taken for inmates except verified emergencies. Incoming calls are not allowed except verified emergencies. YCSO also warns families to be cautious with calls demanding money for inmate programs or early release, because the sheriff has said it does not request money that way.

Prescott Booking and Release

Prescott supports the west-county booking, housing, court, and release workflow. The new facility was publicly linked to reduced transport needs because west-county arrestees no longer had to be moved all the way to Camp Verde for many jail functions. Still, the public roster remains unified, and YCSO transport can move people between Prescott, Camp Verde, courts, medical placements, ADCRR, and other jurisdictions.

Bonds may be posted in person 24 hours a day at Prescott or Camp Verde. During business hours, bond may also be posted at the court of jurisdiction. Card bond payments go through GovPayNet or GovPayNow using PLC A001YN, with the payment amount and arrestee or defendant name. If the person is booked as John or Jane Doe, YCSO says bail cannot be posted until the person is properly identified through the fingerprint process.
